Oregon Grape
Oregon Grape Holly, (Mahonia aquifolium)

Description: These evergreen shrubs are great upright shrubs, although some forms are low and broad. Stiff and leathery, spine-tipped leaves of lustrous dark green makes for great texture in the garden. You'll enjoy their bright yellow flowers in early spring and blue-black berry in summer.
Size: 3-10 ft, (0.9-3 m)
Climate: Partial or full shade. Performs best in moist, well-drained, acid soil.
History: Native range from British Columbia to Oregon. State Flower of Oregon.
Mahonia: after Bernard McMahon (born 1816), American nurseryman.
aquifolium: the name for holly, the leaflets somewhat resemble the leaves of English Holly
